HY4RES Open Day: How hybrid renewable energy systems can enhance energy self-sufficiency in energy communities? - Portugal, 8 April 2026

On 8 April, the European project HY4RES is organising an open afternoon dedicated to demonstrating hybrid renewable energy solutions in energy communities.

This is an opportunity to learn more about HY4RES and its Moinho da Senhora do Salto pilot site in Portugal, one of the four pilot sites of the project: a historic mill and surrounding buildings powered by a hybrid system combining hydropower, solar and wind. The afternoon will also showcase how these systems can enhance the energy autonomy and resilience of local communities, through an interactive workshop.

Who is it for?

The event is aimed at local authorities and municipalities, energy and environmental professionals, water operators and site managers, energy communities and rural development stakeholders, researchers, SMEs, and developers involved in the energy transition.

Programme

  • Presentation of the HY4RES project and its Moinho da Senhora do Salto pilot site in Portugal, highlighting the hybrid innovations implemented
  • Sessions with local and academic experts on challenges and opportunities for energy communities, including:
    • Lessons learned from micro-hydropower projects
    • The rehabilitation project of the Cepeda water mill in Paredes, Portugal
    • Implementation of innovative approaches for energy efficiency and optimisation of water network operations by Águas do Douro e Paiva
  • Interactive workshop to explore solutions that enhance energy autonomy and community resilience
  • Closing session on the sustainability assessment of the project’s hybrid solutions
